ConserveOnline is shutting down on Sunday June 30, 2013. After this date, the site and all contents will be unavailable.
Thank you to those COL workspace owners who have taken the transition survey! You have completed the first step in identifying content and what will happen to that content before June 30, 2013. If you are a COL workspace owner and you have not taken this survey it is very important for you to do so immediately and follow the steps outlined below. To find out if you are a COL workspace owner, please click here.
The following is a list of steps for COL workspace owners and/or COL Library contributors:
- Fill out above mentioned workspace owner survey found here.
- If you choose to do so, download/migrate your COL content. Instruction can be found here.
- If large, custom or special needs, contact the COL team at conserveonline@tnc.org.
- Once you have migrated your content, the COL project team will delete your workspace. Please fill out a brief “Project Wrap-Up” survey found here.
- If you have contributed content to the COL Library, complete the library survey found here.
Two things to consider:
- For TNC staff, if the Library content is TNC owned or licensed, then staff can migrate that content to the Conservation Gateway. TNC staff can migrate and manage their content once trained as a content provider. Information on content provider training for TNC staff only can be found here.
- For non-TNC Library contributors, if the Library content is not TNC owned or licensed, and you do not want to lose this content, please download all content before shutdown on June 30. Instruction can be found here.
Why is TNC shutting down COL?
For nearly 10 years, ConserveOnline has served as an important venue for sharing information among conservation practitioners and others from around the globe. However, COL is hosted on a platform that is outdated and no longer supported. Given the expense of upgrading this platform, and the availability of other alternatives for sharing among conservation practitioners and others, COL will be shut down on June 30, 2013. If you are looking for a way to share The Nature Conservancy’s tools, methods and discoveries with external audiences, please check out the Conservation Gateway. If you are a TNC staff content owner, we hope you will also consider how CONNECT community sites can help you meet your collaboration goals with colleagues and peers around the world.
To be very clear, COL content that you have not transitioned to another location prior to June 30th, 2013 will no longer exist. If you are a COL workspace owner or Library content owner, it is critical that you take action now (see steps above).
If you have any questions, please contact the Transition team.
